SAFGA grower’s day and annual general meeting
The SAFGA (South African Flower Grower Association) held a grower’s day and an AGM on October 18, 2023. The day started with visiting Mobjadi Boerdery and Nedplant at Hekpoort, South Africa. Thereafter, members attended the AGM and had lunch and the annual flower auction at the van Gaalen Cheese factory farm.
The official start of the day was at the Mobjadi Boerdery farm. A group of 60 consisting of flower growers and suppliers to the cut flower industry were present for the visit. Entrepreneur, manager, and owner Welma Viljoen provided a brief history of how and when they embarked on this venture as “townies” with no prior expertise, emphasizing that anything is achievable with persistence, determination, and teamwork. “We had a wonderful, insightful meeting
Looking back on SAFGA Growers’ Day
The SAFGA (South African Flower Growers’ Association) held a growers’ day visiting Oasis Floral Products and Malanseuns, South Africa, on July 26, 2023. This networking event was held to promote interactions with stakeholders in the floral industry.
The official start of the day was at the Oasis facility in Silverton, Pretoria. A group of 30 consisting of flower growers and their staff attended the visit, where Elro Braak, Rick Mason, and Eldene Mason welcomed the visitors. Eldene gave a short history of her father’s contribution to the floral industry as a grower, floral designer, and the innovative introduction of Oasis Floral Foam. Elro and Rick then took the group for a tour through the factory, where they could see the end products and their various uses. Floralife and all its benefits was also highlighted, and those growers already using it could testify to its benefits. The visitors were treated to refreshments before they left.
SAFGA hosts a market day at Multiflora Flower Market
The SAFGA (South African Flower Grower Association) held its first market day at the Multiflora Flower Market in Johannesburg, South Africa, on March 15, 2023. This event was hosted at Multiflora flower market. Mirjam Ngoato-Breg from AFG-Worldwide organized the day on behalf of the association. The networking event was held to promote interactions with stakeholders in the flower grower industry.
SAFGA visit to Kwazulu Natal
Under the leadership of Dr. Pierre Adriaanse, Manager of the Unisa Horticulture, section SAFGA (South Africa flower Grower Association) visited flower growers in Kwazulu Natal. SAFGA plans and visits Horticultural industry farms yearly and promotes the Horticultural industry interaction, networks, and relationships.
On the 27th of July 2022, the group of 22 growers and suppliers boarded a plane at Lanseria airport, Johannesburg, and flew to King Shaka Airport, Durban. There the group traveled with a bus to Eshowe, about 150km north of the airport, and was welcomed by Hamish Godbold who is the Managing Director of Zuluflora farms who are large growers of Leucospermum
